Profile:
Maria Jose Morinigo has extensive experience in pre-trial discovery and motion practice in federal and state courts. She has drafted appellate briefs for civil appeals to the Commonwealth Court of Pennsylvania, the Superior Court of Pennsylvania, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit. Ms. Morinigo�s practice focuses on complex civil litigation, white collar criminal defense, and labor arbitration. Her areas of representation include mail and wire fraud, corporate fraud and abuse of fiduciary duty, health care fraud, the False Claims Act, and the food and drug act. She was a member of a trial litigation team that won a summary judgment motion on behalf of a large Chicago law firm in a suit involving charges of misuse of civil process. Ms. Morinigo assisted in the successful defense of a Chief Operating Officer of a regional energy company in a class action related to rate issues.
As part of the firm�s arbitration practice, Ms. Morinigo has drafted judicial opinions regarding disciplinary, trusteeships, and election matters for the Independent Hearing Officer of the Laborers� International Union of North America. In this role, Ms. Morinigo has also conducted labor union election protest investigations. In other arbitration areas, Ms. Morinigo assists Peter Vaira in his role as a federal court-appointed arbitrator in the nationwide Fen-Phen litigation.
Ms. Morinigo speaks Spanish and French. She has completed the coursework for a master�s degree in International Relations at Boston University with a concentration in the European Union and has recently attended a two-week workshop in Paris, France on French legislative and legal procedure. Ms. Morinigo is a member of the Alliance Fran�aise de Philadelphie, the German Society of Pennsylvania, and the World Affairs Council of Philadelphia. Ms. Morinigo assists Peter Vaira with international arbitrations.
